AUSTRALIAN TARANTELLA FESTIVAL

The “tarantella” is not just a dance and music: it represents pride in one's origins.
The tarantella represents the culture of southern Italy. Not only a traditional dance, a rhythm, unique and inimitable instruments, a music that speaks of a territory, but also the spirit and pride of one's roots. The tarantella represents pride in one's origins.
The "Australian Tarantella Festival" also represents all "southern" cultures, sometimes forgotten, minority and discriminated against.
the Tarantella, initially considered as marginal music and which gradually transformed into a real multi-generational cultural movement. Obviously the creativity and art of our Region does not stop at the so-called "popular" music but there are various realities that make our land a great "container" full of creative ferment.
After the great success and positive feedback of 2023 and 2024 with the tours organized by Calabria Sona overseas, we have decided to give continuity to this project and make it an international point of reference thanks to the creation of a real festival called "Australia Tarantella Festival" which can involve this wonderful land and southern Italy every year in not only a musical but also a social event. A new way of conceiving music as the promoter of an entire Territory and its "true" identity to be taken around the world, its beauties and its traditions to be included among its unique and inimitable riches.
Every year the festival will bring the best music from the South overseas (not only among Italian communities but especially to Australian squares and festivals). Live music, traditional instruments and artists who have now entered the musical history of these lands.
A project that will be able to integrate, thanks to the universal message of music and cultural interaction, the promotion of everything that southern Italy expresses, its tourism, its beauty and its food and wine.
A festival that promotes a land rich in history and traditions but projected towards the future and towards true international world music outside of stereotypes and close to the new generations in language and substance.
Australia Tarantella Festival has united and will unite some well-known musical excellences from SOUTHERN Italy (for example Ciccio Nucera – Emy Vaccari – Paolo Paviglianiti – Carmen Floccati – Davis Mucccari – Antonio Grosso - the bagpipes of Laino) who represent a story that starts from the deepest roots.
Our ARTISTS create moments of interaction, promotion and obviously fun towards a much wider audience using world music and its universal language. Our musicians often represent all of southern Italy around the world and in the most important international festivals in an excellent and professional way among the great artists. The tour is in collaboration with Calabria Sona, Italysona and FITP (Italian federation of popular traditions).
During the festival there will also be stages and seminars on dance, singing and traditional instruments. Some moments to present our culture not only to third and fourth generation emigrants but also to Australians themselves by involving local dance schools and creating Happenings in cultural foundations, associations, places of culture and local musicians and artists.

promotion and valorisation of popular music and world music made in Italy.
ItalySona is the Italian record label dedicated to World and Folk Music. A project that wants to give space to "ethno" productions but with an eye to the future. Music that comes from the roots but is open to contamination.
Calabria Sona with its many activities enhances the musicians and initiatives that have our music at heart. Calabria Sona has become a point of reference for artists and festivals, acting as a platform for promotion and visibility, as a driving force and catalyst for initiatives and projects.
Consecrated in the field as the only Calabrian music circuit, Calabria Sona aims to give a positive image of our Earth, far from stereotypes and clichés. Promoting the artists who have decided to stay in our land and highlight the positive aspects coming from the true ethnopopular tradition looking towards International World Music.
Calabria Sona today is also a national and international point of reference, collaborating with all the realities of the Italian territory and beyond borders. It boasts collaborations with all festivals and represents our music around the world between festivals, fairs and international events.
